“No part appeared to be either hidden or celebrated, just perfectly considered and completely appropriate in the hierarchy of the products details and features. At a glance, you knew exactly what it was and exactly how to use it.” Ive on Dieter Rams

Hey everyone,

This is actually the first blogpost I’m making. I’m not really much of a writer although i hope to continue doing this.

Okay lets talk a bit on how my design journey started.

I started designing 5 years ago working mostly with corel draw and a little bit of Adobe photoshop, down the line I have learnt how to use other software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign etc. I was mostly focused on design mainly for prints until i decided late last year to start learning UI/UX Design.

I Started with figma cos it was free and fun to use, watched some tutorial videos online and within less than 3days i was good to go creating my own designs.

Working on the ask.com landing page

The ask.com landing page redesign was actually my second shot at design with figma. Growing up I used the ask.com website alot while in secondary school but lately its been so long I used it, thinking of a project to work on just to practice what i learnt through the youtube videos and all.

I came across this beautiful post on Dieter Ram’s 10 principle of design, I think you should check it too https://www.3pillarglobal.com/insights/dieter-rams-10-principles-good-design

Okay back to the ask.com website

current look of the ask.com website

After learning about the 10 principles of design, I studied the ask.com website and came up with some observations. The website is a question answering focused e-business website created to allow users get answers to questions posed in everyday, natural language, as well as by traditional keyword searching. So i noticed the current website has some obstructions as it does not support speech recognition which is a comfortable way for users to search instead of using the keyboard and also helps disabled people in accessing the site, so i added a speech recognition feature to the design. I made sure the design i created was simple, classy and useful as possible. Removing the search icon and replace it with the voice recognition icon, i had to create a shape art for users to click while searching. I added a “what’s your question?” text to the question bar to encourage users to ask questions and to ensure the purpose of the website is realized and also added a cool button “search for answers” to provide results.

my design

I maintained the Trademark logo of the ask.com used Montserrat font all through the design, colours i used for the text #AAA7A7 a nice gray colour. Used rounded corners for the box and buttons to give it a great aesthetic feeling.

I also added a text that shows “ask with voice” when a mouse is hovered towards the sound recognition icon

ask with voice button

Okay thanks for reading through, please try ignore the typos and I would very much appreciate comments and observations
